Poem: The Harlequin by ~Aki-no-Kioku:iconAki-no-Kioku:

First of all, this is a reworking of that old thing in my scraps called "Dear Sir" which was me ranting and listening to Marry Me by EA. After awhile it turned into this, which is still EA inspired. Because EA rocks. She rocks EVERYTHING.

What else I have to say about this one is best read after you have finished the poem.
Author's Comment's ahoy!! ;)

I’ll admit, only to myself
That I loathe the way your lies move
Ah, so caressing
With the darkest of intentions, unseen
You acrobatically leap around the truth
I must say, I’m impressed
Plotting the next move while you execute the last

“Watch closely!” you tell the audience
in a voice as hushed as can be
“I present to you, a travesty in two acts!”

Two acts:
The beginning
And the end

In which order are they?

What is life, but a play
In which I am Colombina
And you are Harlequin
But oh, you lack the most important part of the role
You do not love me

Trick the dancers, dig your claws
Trick the poets, feel your empathy
Trick the lovers, speak your lies
Your magnificent burla

You lure with your colorful diamonds,
Plan taken into effect
But I can see behind your black mask

Only to gain what you sought
I proved a challenge, through my pride and misery
And you rose to my bait
Just as I rose to yours

Your discourse, so poignant
Each word carefully planned out
Drenched in manipulation
Oh, how I wish…
…to take a razor blade to your smile

This is the play that when you take off your mask
You turn out to be exactly what you are costumed as

Author's Comments

I need a better title, but I don't really know what to do.
Could also be titled "The Farce's Truth" or "The Truth's Farce."
This is one of those lovely poems where everything is both ways.

So, this whole thing started out only because there was this one line that I desperately needed to write, which, oddly enough, is the line I like least in the whole poem.
Which line? This one:
Oh, how I wish…
…to take a razor blade to your smile

Strange, no? Well, this whole things pretty much about a certain incident that has happened to myself, people close to me, and people I know.
If you pick it apart, I know you'll figure it out ;)
(hint: the word empathy and its context give a lot away lol)

I am quite proud of this one, actually. I really do like it. I also think it's probably my best to date, even better than the big poem-y thing I'm in the process of finishing.
(Yes, I DID do research for this poem, lol)

Thank you for reading! :D

Yes, you did do your homework. So nice to see there are a few people who are aware that Harlequin is more than a sidekick to a Batman villain!
:iconaki-no-kioku:
Hahaha! Indeed!
Although I do love Harley Quinn, the traditional Harlequin has always had a place in my heart. I think it's all those diamonds, they are my best friend, after all! ;)
